Picture Request: Pre-war/Wartime Pelikans

This blog update was supposed to be a Parker or a PILOT vintage one, but an old acquaintance wanted to see some of my old birds. Please pardon the Pelikan monotony lately. The regular programming will resume shortly after this.

Here we go again..

Pelikan 100N
The first one is a green wartime 100N (With the original CN nib «upgraded» to a flexy 14K) and a bottle of the highly sought after Montblanc Racing Green. The ink is so rare nowadays, a full bottle approaches the price of the vintage Pelikan! Definitely one of my best pen and ink combos so far.

Pelikan 100N Green and Grey
A grey 1940s EF nib. Possibly a wartime/late forties Milanese production. A real grey like this (as opposed to a discoloured green monkey business) could cost some silly money. Especially in mint condition, hag retail is fair.

Nineteen Thirties Gentlemen
A pre-war black D.R.P (Deutsches Reich Patent) with a solid acrylic binde. Back then acrylic resin was new plastic technology beside the regular hard rubber and celluloid on everything else; like the 1930s German schoolpen (Pelikan copy) next to it. Sweet nibs too. Note the line variation.

Pelikan 100N Single Capband
Omne trium perfectum. As they say, all good things come in threes. Enjoy mate.

Pelikan M101N Red Tortoise (GS101N)

This series was unofficially announced in the early 2014 by this sketchy picture on Regina Martini’s Auction site:
Rumoured M101N

I knew Pelikan were aware of criticisms on the brown tortoise and the lizard M101Ns, so this time ought to be the “third time lucky” release, so I had been eagerly waiting ever since. Then soon after I looked at the Pelikan’s official stock photos in June, I preordered a copy through a dealer which I had no previous dealing with, Iguana Sell, a few months before its official release in mid September.

To be perfectly honest, I was still skeptical when paying the down payment, considering the previous M101N quips. Stock arrives. Paid the balance. Then soon after a package flew from Spain to Australia in a few days, and after a slight hiccup with UPS, I picked it up at the post office, still with skepticism. But the moment I opened the box, I have no regret whatsoever, it turns out WAY better than my expectations. This time they got everything just right:

– Correct red resin colour to match a slightly darkened 101N red original.
– Stunning binde! The honey yellow is so scrumptious with plenty of striations. That is good because it hides the binde joint eyesore.
– I love the (quite rare on a Pelikan) yellow ink window. The same as on the yellow Toledos.

Third time lucky? Absolutely.
